Guiding Guidelines
GPs are deluged with guidelines, almost all of which are produced by bodies having as their prime concern something other than the immediate well-being of the patient in the consulting room just now.
We need a Guideline Barrier Committee whose brief, analogously with that of the Formulary or District Therapeutics Committee, is to prevent bad guidelines being propagated.
A guideline can produce more expenditure than many drugs. BMJ Paper
Guidelines and expense
The committee should meet infrequently, and for short periods. Indeed, apart from its role as a limiter, like most committees it should be able to do most of its work without physical meetings.
The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network may however be on the right side.

Licencing Guidelines
If you do produce a guideline, the best licence and copyright statement to use for it is this one: GNU Documentation Licence.
Any guideline and its accompanying instantiation in software that is under a more restrictive licence is probably best avoided, since users risk subordinating their own judgement and future knowledge
to restrictions for which there is little justification.
