Linux

By 4 November 2001 my desktop had moved more than half from Windows (NT4) to Linux (SuSE 7.2).
The move is easier than the move from DOS to Windows 3.1 was or the move from Novell to Linux as a server.

Integration

VNC, Wine and a number of other programs and systems exist to make the heterogenous network and heterogonous desktop a workable or even desirable working environment.
Python and tcl scripting languages also help to unify and allowed ways of working to be devised before the balance shifted and not need great changes to preserve them afterward.

The result of the move is enormous relief

Open Source

There is enough on Linux on the Web, I may point to some of the accounts of other moves, there is always pain in jumping, but there are clear indications of ever-increasing pain in not migrating away from Windows-dependence.
But I do what suits me, and so must you all try to.
